A WOMAN GROWS UP,

UNWANTED, UNLOVED, AND ALONE,

WANDERING THROUGH LIFE

IN A WORLD WITH HEARTS OF STONE.

YES, SHE WANDERED THROUGH LIFE,

ALWAYS ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN,

HER HEART BROKEN MORE EACH DAY,

HER TRUST AND FAITH GROWING MORE THIN.

DUE TO CONSTANT PAIN AND REJECTION,

SHE DID NOT VERY MUCH SOCIALIZE,

HER SADNESSS HAD NO VALUE OR WORTH,

IN THE WICKED, WEARY WORLD’S EYES.

SHE DID NOT VIEW THE WORLD AROUND HER,

AS DID MOST PEOPLE AS A WHOLE,

BUT RATHER SHE VIEWED IT,

THROUGH THE EYES OF HER SOUL.

SO LONELY THROUGH LIFE SHE DID WANDER,

TILL ONE DAY A COMPUTER SHE DID GET,

AND IT DID NOT TAKE HER VERY LONG,

TO DISCOVER THE INTERNET.

A WORLD OF POSSIBLE FRIENDS AND ACCEPTANCE,

WAS QUITE SUDDENLY BROUGHT NEAR,

SO SHE REACHED OUT IN TRUST AND JOY,

SENSING NO NEED TO FEAR.

SOME OF THE CONTACTS THAT SHE MADE,

CAUSED JOY IN HER HEART TO ABOUND,

THE ACCEPTANCE THAT SHE’D ALWAYS SOUGHT,

SUDDENLY IT SEEMED SHE’D FOUND.

AND THEN CAME THAT VERY SPECIAL DAY,

A CHARMING MAN ON LINE SHE DID MEET,

WHO BEGAN TO WOO AND COURT HER,

WITH WORDS SO SOFT AND SWEET.

AT FIRST THEY MERELY CHATTED,

JUST AS MOST FRIEND OFTEN DO,

AND THEN THERE CAME THE DAY,

HE CLAIMED HE’D COME TO LOVE HER TRUE.

HE CLAIMED HE WANTED TO MEET HER,

THAT FOR HER HE DID TRULY CARE,

THEN TRUSTINGLY HER ADDRESS,

WITH THIS STRANGER SHE DID SHARE.

THIS MAN, HE CONTINUED TO WOO HER,

CAUSING IN HER HEART HOPE TO GROW,

BUT TWICE WHEN HE PROMISED TO BE THERE,

WITHOUT EXPLANATION HE DID NOT SHOW.

BOTH TIMES HER HEART WAS BREAKING,

BUT THE VERY NEXT TIME HE CAME ON LINE,

THE POOR LONELY WOMAN FORGAVE HIM,

AND ONCE MORE EVERYTHING WAS FINE.

THEN HE BEGAN TO SEND HER PRESENTS,

ONE OR TWO NEARLY EVERY WEEK,

AND HE BEGAN TO INCREASE THE SWEETNESS,

OF THE LOVE WORDS HE DID SPEAK.

THEN ONE DAY THE POOR LADY ANSWERED,

A KNOCK UPON HER DOOR,

A POLICE OFFICER STOOD THERE,

AND HER DREAMS SHATTERED TO THE FLOOR.

THE WOMAN STARED AT THE OFFICER,

AND AS SHE HEARD WHAT HE HAD TO SAY,

HER HEART FOREVER BROKE UPON,

THAT BLEAK AND SAD, SAD DAY.

HE TOLD HER THE GIFTS HAD BEEN PURCHASED,

WITH A STOLEN CREDIT CARD,

IN DISBELIEF SHE SIMPLY STARED AT HIM,

AS TEARS BEGAN TO COME DOWN FAST AND HARD.

IN DISBELIF SHE WATCHED AS THE OFFICER,

CARRIED ALL OF HER GIFTS AWAY,

HE TOLD HER SHE’D BEEN THE VICTIM,

OF SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED EVERY DAY.

IT SEEMED THE MAN WHO HAD WOOED HER,

AND CLAIMED HE WANTED HER TO BE HIS WIFE,

HAD REALLY ONLY BEEN TOYING WITH HER,

AND HAD ENDED UP RUINING HER LIFE.

AS FOR THE MAN WHO HAD CLAIMED HE LOVED HER,

NEVER AGAIN DID HE WRITE,

THOSE SWEET, ADORING LOVE WORDS,

HE SIMPLY DROPPED OUT OF SIGHT.

LADIES, LET THIS VERSE STAND AS A WARNING. NEVER LET YOUR HEART GO OUT TO SOMEONE ON THE INTERNET. THEY ARE MORE THAN LIKELY A PROFESSIONAL CON ARTIST, VERY SKILLED IN THE WORDS TO USE TO MAKE YOU FALL FOR THEM.

AND IT MATTERS NOT YOUR AGE, STATION IN LIFE, OR LOOKS, IF THEY THINK THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO GAIN OR THAT YOU WILL BE OF USE TO THEM IN FURTHERING THEIR NEFARIOUS ENDS, THEY WILL HAVE YOU SO CONVINCED THEY LOVE YOU THAT YOU WILL DO ANYTHING FOR THEM.

THEY WILL USE YOU AND DISCARD YOU LIKE A PIECE OF UNWANTED TRASH ONCE YOU ARE NO LONGER OF USE TO THEM.

THERE ARE MONSTERS OUT THERE, LADIES, AND THEY DO NOT HAVE CLOVEN HOOFS AND FORKED TAILS OR HORNS, BUT THEY ARE JUST AS EVIL. THEY WILL BREAK YOUR HEART WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT. YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO WORTH IN THEIR EYES, EXCEPT AS A MEANS TO AN END.

PLEASE, I IMPLORE YOU, IF YOU GO ON ANY OF THE INTERNET SITES LOOKING FOR FRIENDS, USE CAUTION, AND ALWAYS BEAR IN MIND THAT THE PICTURES YOU SEE ARE USUALLY NOT OF THE PEOPLE YOU ARE ACTUALLY TALKING TO.

THESE CON ARTISTS ARE EXPERTS IN THE ART OF DECEPTION.

AND NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE GIVE THEM YOUR PHONE NUMBER, ADDRESS, CREDIT CARD NUMBER OR ANY OTHER PERSONAL INFORMATION.

YOU WILL REGRET IT IF YOU DO.

I SPEAK FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.

THE VERSE YOU JUST READ WAS ABOUT ME.

AMBER, A VICTIM

  1. You make a great point with this piece! It is amazingly easy to lie on the internet.

I haven’t heard from you in a while. How are you doing? Did you email me? I got an email that said it was from you, and tried to reply but got back a “failure to deliver” note.
